The State of North Carolina has had a Building Code since 1936.
It was established by the Legislature when fire companies realized that buildings meeting an agreed on set of performance standards were less likely to catch on fire and more likely to remain structurally safe for a longer period of time.
The Minimum Housing Code is typically used to police unsafe one and two family structures.
The North Carolina Association of Housing Code Officials was formed by a group of Housing Code Officials representing the entire State whose goal was to provide a formal network for information sharing, education, training and certification for Housing Inspectors.
The first meeting of the North Carolina Association of Housing Code Officials was held in Gastonia on January 21, 1994 and the goals of these individuals continue to be met. |
